Core Health & Fitness, an industry leader in the distribution of commercial fitness products, has partnered with Rave & Ride to host the UK’s largest indoor cycling event.
Entrepreneur Steven Smith lost his mum, Genifer, to MND, and now organises the Rave & Ride, a 300+ person indoor cycling event that raises vital funds for MND Association. This year the event will be taking place at Stoke Park, Europe’s leading Five Star Hotel, Spa and Country Club.
The event at Stoke Park will see individuals and teams of indoor cyclists come together for an all-day sponsored ride with club music provided by some of the biggest DJs from the UK and beyond.
Two world records could also be broken during the day due to the scale of the event and the numbers expected to take part. Over 1,000 participants are already signed up.
Steven has so far an incredible £115,000 for the MND Association through fundraising events including previous Rave and Rides, the Arctic, several London Marathons and the gruelling L’Etape du Tour cycle race.
He hopes the Rave and Ride in May will push his fundraising total to over £160,000, helping the Association to fund the work of two PhD students, based out of the MND Care and Research Centre at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital.
The event will also be the official launch of the new Star Trac Studio Series of indoor cycles from Core Health & Fitness, the leader in indoor cycling. The new Studio 3, 5 and 7 will complement the company’s already impressive line of Schwinn indoor cycles.
John Gamble, Managing Director of Core Health & Fitness, comments “We are so pleased to be able to support such a worthy cause. Steven is passionate about the charity and we are delighted to be on board.”

About motor neurone disease (MND) and the MND Association:
- MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord
- It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work. MND does not usually affect the senses such as sight, sound, feeling etc
- It can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breathe
- It affects people from all communities
- It kills around 30% of people within a year of diagnosis, and 50% within 21 months
- A person’s lifetime risk of developing MND is up to 1 in 300
- Six people per day are diagnosed with MND in the UK
- It affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time
- It kills six people per day in the UK, this is just under 2,200 per year
- It has no cure
The MND Association was founded in 1979 by a group of volunteers with experience of living with or caring for, someone with MND. Since then, we have grown significantly, with an ever-increasing community of volunteers, supporters and staff, all sharing the same goal - to support people with MND and everyone who cares for them, both now and in the future.
We improve care and support for people with MND, their families and carers.
We fund and promote research that leads to new understanding and treatments and brings us closer to a cure for MND.
We campaign and raise awareness so the needs of people with MND, and everyone who cares for them, are recognised and addressed by wider society.
